Semiotic Disruption and Negotiations of Authenticity among Argentine Fans of Anglophone Media

This paper investigates how subtitling and dubbing of foreign language media can be interpreted as cases semiotic disruption, this interpretive frame comes to index a cosmopolitan identity among Argentine fans Anglophone pop culture. The naturalization voice/body/language assemblages allows preferences for subtitles an obvious consequence “authentic” fan identity. Discourses liberal inclusivity literacy allow them simultaneously explain others’ consequences class, education, maturity. I argue that these stance-taking strategies are ways mitigating the economic precarity being Argentinean in global/izing world.
